What is the purpose of the Safety Shield Solution?
The purpose of the Safety Shield system is to protect your people, assets and operations. The Safety Shield system uses Human Form Recognition AI technology to recognise any human form that is in danger of coming into contact with moving machinery, The system then prevents accidents by alerting the operator to the danger. The ‘Digital Thumbs Up’ feature provides a 90 degree safe passage to approach and interacts with the operator, safe in the knowledge that the operator has seen the pedestrian.
Through the use of our VUE portal and S.T.R.E.A.M app, the equipment owners to site management teams can see first-hand as situations unfold onsite. They can then review incidents, behaviour and site layouts, enabling them to take the necessary precautions and act accordingly. The system is a camera-based and depending on the type of machine, will require a two camera or four camera solution. Safety Shield can also integrate into 90% of existing cameras on the market.
How accurate is the Safety Shield system technology?
Safety Shield is the only AI Human Form Recognition solution with a 99.6% accuracy rate. This is the reason why Safety Shield has the most advanced technology for AI systems.
What is the difference between the Safety Shield Solution T and Solution F?
The Safety Shield System T (two camera) offers front and rear safety zones whereas the F (four camera) offers up to 360-degree (wrap around) safety zones. The requirements for these solutions depends on the type of machine.
Are the inner and outer incursion detection zone dimensions fixed or can they be adjusted?
Both safety zones can be adjusted to suit different environment or requirements. The zones can be set from 0.5m up to 50m, making the system extremely versatile.
What are the camera vision angles?
108 by 60 degrees as standard.
Can I have the system without the data package?
From 2026 the first year data package is included in the solution price, after this it is an optional annual data package.
Does the system show where my machine is located/working?
Yes- the system has a multi-service SIM card installed meaning that whilst the machine is active it will show where the machine is located and operating. If the machine operates in an area with no signal, in which case the information is stored on the SSD card until the signal is restored and uploaded to the cloud showing the date and time of the GPS location at the time that the information was recorded.
How much data/video capability is stored on the device?
The host device can store up to at least 50 hours on continuous loop on the internal storage device.
Can a video be downloaded, for example for an incident or for training purposes?
Yes, individual incidents where a human form has been detected can be downloaded through the customer’s dashboard on their VUE platform tenant, and stored for training purposes or for the emergency services.
Can I decide whether to renew my data package later?
Yes – the host (in the UK) comes with both SIM and SSD cards already installed, so switching a data package on or off is straight-forward.
International distributors or customers please note: the cost to supply SIM and SSD Cards and to transmit data to the cloud varies greatly from country to country, along with the local regulations to allow it to happen, so each overseas territory (outside the UK) will require its specific data package(s) to be quoted on a region by region basis.
How can I view my data?
Your data can be viewed through use of either the VUE portal and/or optional app with your individual account dependant on the data package purchased.
What are the various data packages?
Currently we have the following options:
1 year, 2 year or 3 year which provides access to the portal, each with the option to include the app.
Does an in-cab screen come as standard?
No, the standard is for no screen to be provided. Customers often tell us that the operator has enough to keep them busy without providing something else to distract them. However, upon request we can install a 7-inch screen which displays all camera live feeds simultaneously. Contact us for more information.
If a screen were fitted would the operator view playback video?
No, a screen would show live events, for example the same as a reversing camera.
If a screen were fitted (in-cab) how would it show from each camera?
The screen is displayed to show live feed from each camera, for example on a four camera solution, the screen is split into four segments.
Can the external alarm be muted to allow for working in noise sensitive areas?
Yes, by using the key switch the external alarm can be muted, for example working in a residential area, or late at night.
Does Safety Shield detect partial human form?
Yes for example, an arm or leg or even a head emerging from a maintenance hole.
Does Safety Shield detect a person laying down (for example passed out or fallen over)?
Yes, the system has even detected the ‘painted man’ on a zebra crossing.
What is the length of the Warranty Period?
Our warranty period for components and installations is 12 months, this does not cover damage or operator abuse.
Does the Safety Shield system require additional pedestrian worn tags or radar?
No, our system uses cameras and AI to detect the human form rather than relying on sensor or radar-based technology.
Would installation on OEM equipment (under warranty) invalidate OEM warranty?
No. The Safety Shield system would not interfere with OEM warranty.
Can anybody be trained to install the Safety Shield system?
A competent person with a background and experience in auto electrical work can be trained and certificated to install Safety Shield systems through our internal training programme. Please contact us if you are interested in this.
If the customer's engineers were trained by Safety Shield to install the system would that affect the Safety Shield warranty?
No, if customers’ engineers have achieved Safety Shield certification to install through our passing our training scheme and that install was completed to the required standard, it would not impact the Safety Shield warranty. Regular approved engineer auditing by Safety Shield is also necessary to keep their certification valid.
Do you provide training other training?
Yes, we provide a suite of training at customer locations, depots and in working environments. Training ranges from Operator PDI training to System familiarisation for all operating and working around machines
What happens if a camera is covered or becomes faulty?
The system is designed to detect both of these scenarios and will alert the operator immediately of the issue through the user interface.
How can I ensure my system is always working as effectively as possible?
To ensure the system is always working to it's full potential, daily visual checks should be conducted on system components and regular cleaning of camera lenses to make sure they are free from debris.
Is Safety Shield just another form of AI workplace surveillance to monitor worker productivity?
No. Safety Shield is a safety-critical system, not a performance management tool. Unlike general workplace AI, our system utilises Edge Processing. This means the AI analyses video locally on the machine to detect danger; it does not "stream" or store continuous footage of workers to a central database. We are fully compliant with the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 and support the right to human oversight in all AI-driven decisions.
Does the system record and store my face or biometric data?
Our AI is designed for Human Detection, not Facial Recognition. It identifies the form of a human to prevent a collision. Under our "Privacy-by-Design" framework, raw imagery is not stored unless a "Critical Incident" (a near-miss or collision) occurs, at which point a short 10-second clip is encrypted for legal and safety review—similar to a black-box flight recorder.
